84 West Main Street Lane Addition

Project Description

This project will connect with the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) current improvements to the Ross Clark Circle/U.S. Hwy 84 by extending an additional lane westbound to John D. Odom Road. There will be intersection improvements associated with the project, as well as incorporating ALDOT’s Access Management Plan for this corridor. The additional lane will be added to the median side of West Main Street.

This project is funded by the City of Dothan and the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program (ATRIP-II) grant. This grant is managed by the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT). The City of Dothan received the maximum available ATRIP-II grant funds in the amount of 2 million dollars and is providing an additional estimated 4 million dollars to complete the project. The project is currently being designed by Poly, Inc.

Update 10/20/21

MidSouth Inc. was the low bidder on the project at $5,495,872.16.  The project was approved to be awarded by the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) on the June 1st City Commission meeting.  A preconstruction conference was held on July 22, 2021. Work on West Main Street associated with the Ross Clark Circle Widening project will be coordinated with this widening project.  The additional lanes on West Main Street were restriped and opened up with a lane shift along the westbound lanes of West Main Street from Bel Aire Drive to John D Odom Road in September. The initial work will include median clearing and grubbing. This initial work also includes some curb work and widening in the East bound lane of West Main Street just east of Flowers Chapel Road. The right turn flow through lane off of Flowers Chapel onto Hwy 84 headed East will remain closed to complete the widening work on that lane and there is also additional signal work required.  Milling and leveling of westbound turn lanes is complete.  Clearing west of Woodburn is complete. The contractor is currently working on the required earthwork to build the new westbound through lane.
