84 West Main Street Lane Addition

Project Description

This project will connect with the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) current improvements to the Ross Clark Circle/U.S. Hwy 84 by extending an additional lane westbound to John D. Odom Road. There will be intersection improvements associated with the project, as well as incorporating ALDOT’s Access Management Plan for this corridor. The additional lane will be added to the median side of West Main Street.

This project is funded by the City of Dothan and the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program (ATRIP-II) grant. This grant is managed by the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT). The City of Dothan received the maximum available ATRIP-II grant funds in the amount of 2 million dollars and is providing an additional estimated 4 million dollars to complete the project.

Update 4/12/22

MidSouth Inc. was the low bidder on the project at $5,495,872.16.  The project was approved to be awarded by the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) at the June 1, 2021 City Commission meeting. A preconstruction conference was held on July 22, 2021. The flow-through lane off Flowers Chapel Road is planned to be reopened by the end of April depending on the weather. MidSouth made a lane shift eastbound from John D Odom to near Graceland Drive. Storm drainage, subgrade, base work, asphalt binder, and shoulder grading work will continue in the area near Woodburn and Flowers Hospital and other areas for the next several months.
