It is the mission of the Dothan Fire Department Training Division to provide quality, comprehensive, and progressive training to ensure our members can effectively deliver outstanding service in today’s all-hazard environment while maintaining their safety.

The Dothan Fire Department teaches a variety of fire and emergency medical programs that include, but are not limited to, Firefighter I/II, Fire Officer, Fire Instructor, Apparatus Operator, Rope Rescue Technician, Hazardous Materials Technician, EMT Basic, CPR, Stop the Bleed, etc. All fire-based training is accredited through the Alabama Fire College, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), and the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board). All emergency medical training is accredited through the Alabama Department of Public Health, National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, and the American Heart Association.

Member safety is one of the Dothan Fire Department’s “Big 5” values. We offer a comprehensive health and wellness program that includes, but is not limited to annual medical physicals, SCBA fit testing, and fitness assessments, fitness training, stress/sleep/nutrition education, mental health counseling, emergency vehicle operator education, and accident/injury investigation and prevention.

The Dothan Fire Department is committed to recruiting the absolute best cadets our community has to offer while maintaining a diverse workforce. Cadets must possess a positive attitude, be hard charging, and be physically fit. To assist applicants in the hiring process we offer Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) mentorship and physical fitness programming.

Anyone interested in attending scheduled training, becoming a Dothan Fire Firefighter, or attending a CPAT mentorship session should contact the Training Division.
