The Therapeutic Recreation Program also coordinates with the local Special Olympics program for the Dothan area. The goal of the Special Olympics is to provide opportunities for intellectually challenged children and adults to participate as productive and respected citizens, by offering them a fair opportunity to develop and demonstrate their skills and talents through sports training and competition, and by increasing the public's awareness of their capabilities and needs.
To be eligible to participate in Special Olympic sports programs, participants must complete an Application for Participation in Special Olympics (Health Form) and a Release Form. These forms can be obtained from the local office. Forms are good for three years.
