Water
Division Overview
It is Dothan Utilities’ intention to plan for, operate, and maintain both the infrastructure and the organization necessary to purvey high-quality drinking water, to provide an adequate and reliable water supply for all household, commercial, and community needs. Through regular preventative maintenance, improvements, and expansions and through the use of current technologies our water production and distribution systems provide outstanding water quality while protecting the environment.
Annual Report
Each year, Dothan Utilities prepares for its customers, a Consumer Confidence Report which outlines the quality of the product that we deliver. Additional information about the sources of your water and the water distribution system can be found in the Consumer Confidence Report. This report is delivered annually by July 1st. Long-Range Plan
Starting in 1992, a comprehensive study of the City of Dothan Water System was conducted. Nine years later, in 2001, the original long-range plan was updated after most of the 1992 recommendations were implemented. View the 2012 Long-Range Water Plan: Update Executive Summary (PDF).
The maintenance of the long-range plan has proven to be one of the most valuable tools in the planning, maintenance, and operation of our system. This study, conducted by a local engineering firm, looks at all aspects of our system including the evaluation of existing facilities, water conservation, rate structures, and long-range water needs. With each update to this plan, Dothan Utilities finds that its system is much more capable of meeting the needs of our customers.
Source Water Assessment Program
The Alabama Department of Environmental Management requires the City of Dothan to implement a Source Water Assessment Program for the Dothan water system. This process involves locating and inventorying potential sources of contamination near and around its wells. The program has been completed.
The report is available for review by appointment at the Dothan Utilities / Water and Electric Complex located across from Selma Baptist Church on South Park Avenue at 200 Kilgore Drive. Please call (334) 615-3200.
EPA Service Line Inventory
Findings from the recent assessment of the City of Dothan’s Dothan Utilities water distribution system show no lead service lines, galvanized requiring replacement service lines, or lead status unknown service lines. A comprehensive service line inventory was developed utilizing historical records, field inspections, statistical analysis, and material verifications and was conducted in accordance with the EPA's Lead and Copper Rule Revision regulations.
Dothan Utilities remains committed to safeguarding the health and well-being of our community. We uphold the highest standards in the pumping, treatment, and delivery of drinking water to ensure compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act and all other relevant regulations.
