Wiregrass Innovation Center Groundbreaking -
Monday, May 6, 2024
On May 6, 2024, Phase II of Dothan’s City Center project broke ground. This new phase of the project includes the Wiregrass Innovation Center, a 45,000-square-foot building that will serve as a center for research, education, entrepreneurship, and collaboration, right here in the Wiregrass.
This facility has been made possible by grants from the state of Alabama ($20 Million), The Wiregrass Foundation ($10 Million), and Innovate Alabama ($375,000). HudsonAlpha Wiregrass will serve as the anchor tenant and will provide leadership in the areas of genomic research and agriculture technology (agtech) scientific initiatives.
Alabama’s Governor, Kay Ivey, who was on hand for the groundbreaking, stated, “This is a great day for Dothan, the Wiregrass region, and the entire state of Alabama. The Wiregrass Innovation Center will be a destination for innovators and a place for experiential learning, and the nerve center for economic development.”
Dothan’s Mayor, Mark Saliba, added, “I have lived in Dothan, Alabama my entire life…as we celebrate today, let us leave here committed to working together on this incredible journey of innovation and growth and harnessing the power of science and technology. It’s a journey whose path will be long, it’s a journey that will have many turns, but it is a journey that will make the Wiregrass Innovation Center a home for the visionaries who will shape the future of the Wiregrass…and the entire world.”
Finally, Alabama Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nathaniel Ledbetter, remarked, “This is a new day for Alabama…this will be one of the strongest things that you’ve seen in this region in a long time.”
The Wiregrass Innovation Center is proud to call Dothan home. It will shape the lives of many who will benefit from its presence here for years to come.
