Honeysuckle Road Project

Project Description

This project was broken into two phases, Phase one is widening Honeysuckle Road from 3-lanes to 5-lanes from West Main Street to Fortner Street. This project will allow for two lanes in each direction as well as a center turn lane. This project will include acquiring additional right-of-way, relocating existing utilities, culvert widening, and the addition of a 6’ wide sidewalk along the west side of Honeysuckle Road.

Phase two is a realignment project to connect Honeysuckle Road south of Hartford Highway/AL-52 to a proposed roundabout by Houston County Road and Bridge at the intersection of Campbellton Highway and Taylor Road. This project will include widening the existing Honeysuckle Road from Hartford Highway to Homestead Subdivision to 3-lanes with a center turn lane. Starting at Homestead Subdivision heading south the road will incorporate a two-lane roadway with a center landscaped median island. A traffic signal will be installed with turn lanes at the intersection of South Park Avenue. This project will also include a 10’ walking/biking trial from Homestead Subdivision to Campbellton Highway and a 6’ sidewalk from Homestead Subdivision to Hartford Highway.

Phase one is currently being designed by Gresham, Smith and Partners. Sain Associates, Inc. is designing Phase two of this project.  The City of Dothan is has applied for a Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) Grant with a Federal/City cost share of 60/40 percent.  The grant application was submitted in April.
