[ARCHIVED] 2014 Special Olympics Alabama Distinguished Service Awards luncheon held in Montgomery

The Special Olympics Alabama Distinguished Service Awards luncheon was held in Montgomery, Alabama during November 2014. Dothan was represented very well with two awards being received by individuals/families that play a significant role in the success of our local program.

The Dothan Special Olympics program was very excited to have the Luker Family (Tony and Sheila Luker, daughter Brandi Deese and grandparents Rudy and Peggy McCord) recognized as Family of the Year. This award is presented to a family in the State of Alabama that has made unique and lasting contributions to the lives of individuals with intellectual challenges and who supports their local program through Special Olympics.

The program was also excited to have Zachary Grice recognized as Outstanding Athlete of the Year. This award is presented to an athlete in the State of Alabama who epitomizes the spirit of a true winner by his/her willingness to help others and give his/her very best while displaying outstanding courage and sportsmanship (both on and off the field) of athletic competition.

We are proud to have the Luker Family and Zachary Grice represent the Dothan Area Special Olympics program as Outstanding Family of the year and Outstanding Athlete of the year.

For more information about the local Special Olympic Program, please contact Angie Lowe with Dothan Leisure Services at 615-4743 or email alowe@dothan.org.
